There are days when every fiber of my being longs passionately to do something... only I don't know what it is. Sometimes there's just this need to create, to have an effect on things somehow, I just don't know how to do that.

I skipped the end of summer party 'cause I needed sleep, and I'm mostly-glad I did, as I ended up getting 11ish hours of much-needed rest, but now I'm kind of itching for.. well, again, part of the problem is that I don't know what. It hadn't occurred to me that if I'd gone to the party and brought my drum, I could maybe have played with the fire spinners. That realization bummed me out some.

I'm sure all this stuff is indicative of something Big. Despite thinking of myself as fairly mellow, things like "frenetic", "workaholic", and "running on fumes" have been used to describe me because I have a very had time dealing with the notion of not doing something, even if it's just hanging out with people, so days like this when I've got no immediate project or activity are difficult (I'm intentionally ignoring Red Hat work for a bit, and technical issues are making progress on Second Shift frustratingly difficult).

If anyone happens to know of any drum circles or something like that going on today or tomorrow, let me know. I think I'd dearly love to go bang on things with a throng of people right now. In the mean-time, working on some t-shirt designs I've had in the back of my head for ages, so that's something, at least.

...though I did just find a live recording of Amanda Palmer doing a duet version of Icarus with Jason Webley in Moscow. Whoa. That's day-making material right there.

I found Strange Boston to be oddly creative for me.

Kudos for your portrayal of Hades, btw. You were so much fun to play with.

LARPing generally is for me too, and yesterday certainly was. In fact, after posting it occurred to me that maybe this is a mini version of concrash. It's the same feinding for creative expression and people that I always get after Intercon. Want more!

And the kudos are definitely mutual. Your parting shot still stings. =:P

You want some ice for that burn?

I have to admit, I had the most fun interacting with you when we were fighting xD

I totally wrote down some of our tiffs for the GMs in my post-event-letter thing. I also told Ken he was "such a dick BUT I LOVE YOU FOR IT." That will probably make him happy.

Also, when I need a creative outlet, I do things like this.

I like photography because you can always go back and touch-up photos. And because it's usually pretty easy to find a willing model. =)

It sounds like the things you're talking about doing actually result in the creation of something tangible, and in a lot of ways that's what I'm lacking. Maybe it's not so much a need for creativity as for feeling like I've accomplished something, and I often envy people who are good at creating physical objects because then, even if it's just so much chicken wire and plaster, there's still a thing you can point to and say "this is what I did today". Not so for you?

Ok, I get that. If it helps, remember that those who haven't gotten to do it 2,650 times can still be envious of those who do it at all. =;)

Just something from my own experience:

Have you thought about taking up knitting or crocheting? I find they're both really good for when I feel I ought to be DOING something, and it's really satisfying to complete a project and say "I made this useful thing, all by myself, from just a (really long) piece of string (or three)". I can't imagine you squicking out over "Eww, that's for GURLZ!", and once you get some practice, it's a great activity for something to keep your hands busy while hanging out with people, watching TV, etc. I'm guessing you already have closer friends who could help you get started, but if not, ping me sometime. Heck, I don't have any other plans this very weekend, and I could give you some yarn to get started with.

Actually, I've done knitting before, and quite enjoyed it. I made a dice bag and a hat, which I sadly lost a couple of years ago. The problem I ran into was I reached a point where anything that was just straight, robotic knitting had gotten boring, but anything that required counting and concentrating was difficult to do while doing other things, and it never held my interest enough to be the sole focus of my attention.

Then again, it's been a long time, and I could use a new hat, so maybe that'd help me just chill and watch TV some without feeling like I'm wasting my time.
