Hmm... I need opinions on this movie....

Pros:

  • Jackie Chan!

  • Jet Li!

  • Jackie Chan and Jet Li!

  • Jackie Chan with Das Uberhair!

  • Badass assassin lady who fights with prehensile hair!

Cons:

  • Token Annoying White Dude, reminiscent of Bulletproof Monk (*shudder*)

  • Hokey "it has been foretold that an unlikely hero will ownxor the bad guy" plot

  • Unlikely hero seems to be Token Annoying White Dude (of course)

That movie looked so cool until you told me about the Token Annoying White Dude. How did I miss him in the preview on TV? Token Annoying White Dude, why must you ruin everything!?! Shh! You can stop talking now. No one cares.

My thoughts exactly. Though I have seen the kid in Sky High, and he was surprisingly good. At the same time, it's doubly hard not to be annoying when you're the a token white dude.

Indeed.

Also, nice seeing you again. I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but have you watched the "Hot Fuzz in the US" (or something like that) featurette on the Hot Fuzz DVD? We're in it for a couple of seconds! Nick Frost makes fun of my hair! =:\

Wow! No, I had not seen that! Thanks for the heads up :)

Also, have you seen Run Fatboy Run? I've read some really mixed reviews of it and I'm torn about seeing it in the theaters. I'd love to know your opinion of it if you do see it.

I'm pretty much with you every step of the way for the pros and cons, but I think I'm going to see it anyway. c.c

Those cons are annoying, but I think the pros still outweigh them. (I saw it on IMDB last night, and my interest was piqued. :-)

Jackie Chan (and I think Jet Li, too) had very good things to say about shooting the fight scenes. They had a lot of fun working together, apparently (and they haven't done so, if at all, in a very very long time). That counts as a big "pro" in my book.

Also, Jet Li plays Sun Wukong. And Jackie Chan as the Drunken Immortal. AWESOME.

On the other hand, the token white boy's name is Jason Tripitikas. Yes, that's right, the white boy is the Tripitaka. For some reason. At least, though, that means there's some rational reason for him to be from the west, even if it is too far west, and a good bit north.

Mostly, though, this movie looks like it's supposed to be lots of fun and lots of pretty. If you need it to be emotionally moving and intellectually satisfying, you might want to wait for video.
Relatedly, why is it that "wait for DVD," while certainly more accurate, just doesn't sound right . . . ?
