There are several upcoming drives to register bone marrow donors in the Boston area. If you're unfamiliar with why this is important (hint: Leukemia) or what is involved in being a donor (needless to say, it is not as simple a procedure as donating blood) you should read the material here before making plans.
The drives are not for actual donations. There'll be an info session, then donors can provide their person info and a cotton swab of cells from the inner-cheek. There is a processing fee for this, which is usually around $50. People on the registry will only be asked to donate if and when they are matched with a patient who needs their particular type of cells.
I am hoping to make the one in Newton on Sunday, though I'm not yet certain, if anyone is interested in a ride.
