Haven't gotten to poke around there much, but this morning I stumbled upon (not using StumbleUpon) SongFacts.com. It's like imdb's trivia sections for songs. Nifty. Found it when Noah and I were trying to figure out who originally did "Always on My Mind", which he knew from the Pet Shop Boys version and I knew from the Willie Nelson version (turns out it was originally recorded by Brenda Lee in 1971-- whaddayaknow). Then I looked up Holiday in Cambodia and found out where the Dead Kennedies' singer/lyricist, Jello Biafra, got his name from. You might not want to know that one.

Anyway, it's a nifty site. That is all.

Well, further down on the page, several people call the claim about Pol Pot into question and say that instead the name was intended to contrast Jello, a western food with no food value and Biafra, a short-lived, destitute African nation.

Also, I don't know where they get the thing about that song being about the kid being drafted in Vietnam. I never got that sense at all. I always just heard it as a very satyrical way of saying "You lucky western kids who think you get it, try spending some time living the lives of the truly oppressed and you won't be so quick to say you understand something so profound".

Also: Hi!! You exist on LJ! Welcome!
