Ira Glass fanboy powers: activate!

Going to go see This American Life live tonight. Huzzah! Plus, aparently they are going to start a tv version. I doubt I'd subscribe to Showtime for it, but as soon as it's out on DVD I am _there_.

NOTE: If you watch the trailer, one of the segments seems to be about teenage boffer-larpers. I think there are now officially no sub-cultural niches that TAML has not at least had a segment on.


Oh, on a completely unrelated note, are there any other Green Wing fans I don't know about out there? I just got the DVD special that wraps the series up after season 2. If anyone's interested in a viewing later this week and has not already been invited, let me know and consider yourself invited! Note that if you haven't seen through the end of S2, you will be spoilerified in a potentially traumatic fashion.

I am so jealous that you are going to see Ira. But I have to say I am bummed about the TV show. It justs sounds like selling out to me. I hope the radio show doesn't suffer because of energy put into the tv show.

You're not alone. At one point Ira asked the audience, "So, when you heard we were doing a TV show, did it worry you?", to which the entire audience of 200+ people replied in creepy unison: "Yes!".

But they showed some segments from the TV show during the performance and it was one of the highlights of the evening. They've done a really great job of capturing the feel of the radio show while still doing something different and visual, not wasting the television format. Plus, the first season of the show has already been filmed and debuts in March, so if you haven't been disapointed by the quality of the show this year then you're not likely to be.

Basically, I think it's going to be great documentary series, something TV could use more of, and am 100% excited about it now.
