So, about that podcast thingie I auditioned for.

(wow, it's been a long time since I've gotten to say this)

...I got the part! =:)

I'd been wanting to do something creative and dramatic for a long time now, but the nature of my Real Life Job(tm) made that pretty much impossible. After all, I can never guarantee that I'll be around on a given day months in advance like I'd need to for most types of show. Fortunately the scheduling for this is much more flexible, though recently it's been insane. Here's the story so far:
Last Thursday Saw request for actors, recorded audition from hotel
room in Iowa, emailed it in.
Last Friday Phone interview with the producer
Sunday Invited for callbacks and given ep1 script
Tuesday, 6pm Did callback audition (live reading with cast)
Tuesday, 10pm Offered the role. Accepted.
Tuesday, 10:30pm	Given ep2 script.
Wednesday, 5:00pm	Went in to record eps 1 and 2 in the studio

...note the less-than-24-hours between receiving the ep2 script and going in to record. Yipes. But I think I managed pretty well. Or would have, rather. Recording went longer than we'd expected so we only got through ep1 anyway.

Basically, I am really excited. Not just excited about the opportunity, but about the project its self. The voice talent on the show is going to be a great influence on me as an actor. After one day in the studio with them I know I am going to be constantly motivated to improve, just to feel like I'm keeping up. I've also been let in on a few of the juicier things in store later on in the story and it's _epic_. When I first saw the description of my character I thought to myself that he could get old very fast in the hands of a bad writer, but that he could have an amazingly rich development in the hands of a good one. Well, our producer, Andrea, has a vision and our writers, Mike and Brandon, just rock. Plus the writing process involves a great deal of input and improvisation from the actors, which is great. I've, frankly, slacked a bit on the afore-mentioned Real Life Job(tm) this week as I've tried to get comfortable with how I want him to sound.

So anyway, here are the details that I can give out for now:

The title of the show is "Second Shift". The premise, at first, is pretty basic: three kids from a pizza parlor in our world are magically summoned to a fantasy world where magic is real etc, etc. The characters and the world are very well fleshed-out though, and, being a character-driven story, the premise is just that: the premise within which the real story unfolds. To me, based on the first two scripts at least, it feels very much like an anime with a healthy dose of American geek humor thrown into the mix.

We hope to have the pilot, which will be a two-parter, up later this month. The plan is for episodes to be free, but extra goodies (I'll provide details when things are more finalized) will be for sale to help defray production costs (we're recording in a real studio, so this is non-trivial).

The website url is still TBA. I'll post it once we're live.

There are not a lot of other podcasts out there that are doing what we're doing (serialized original fantasy), so this is really exciting. Expect to see me pimping it ad nauseum once it starts happening. At that point, the show is going to live or die by word of mouth, so I'll be counting on everybody to check it out and, if you like it, do me a favor and provide some linkage. You've been warned. =:)
