Ok, so tonight I was bored and in a hotel so I turned on the tv. I happened upon an episode of "Codename: Kids Next Door" on Cartoon Network, which I'd never seen before. It was... charmingly bizarre. The particular episode I saw involved a plot by an evil villain to destroy all of the world's ice cream from a giant orbital cake. Basically, it was fun and my interest was peaked enough to go looking at DVDs on Amazon, where I found something that, for some reason just made my day. The first review begins as follows:
"I hate this show it is not aproproit for any adinces beacuse it insults adults. As a kid this show sucks adults help kids and without them every kid in the world whould be dead!"
Awww. It's kind of cute in its way, but it seems that the kids are not liking this show (not to mention being a wee bit defensive of their parents). Indeed, the next one continues in a similar vein:
"I agre with most of the other reviewers with how bad and stuped this show is! all its about is these dumb kids who fight grown ups and go on stuped and pontless adventres! they r stuped too! this show is sucks!!!!"
It goes on like this for several one-star reviews that based on the spelling I sincerely hope were all written by kids until you get to the first four-star (not to mention multi-paragraph) review, which begins:
"I'm 28 and I love this cartoon!"
Now, is it just me, or would that have given anyone else a happy fit-of-the-giggles and convinced them that this is a show worth further investigation? =:)
...Ok, this is just getting bizarre. Grim and Mandy is on and Billy just got chased by cracked-out, bloodshot-eyed versions of Yogi Bear and... that other little sidekick bear, into a cave that turns out to be the ancient dwarven mines of boringya where a mighty war is being planned by the dwarves against the hated (keebler) elves. The best part? I swear the dwarf king is being voiced by Michael Dorn.
I should watch children's tv more often.
Addendum On the subject of strange voice acting roles, the eeeevil villain in the afore-mentioned Kids Next Door episode kept tugging at my memory, like it was a voice I'd heard before. Finally it bugged me so much that I looked him up. Aaaand the bane of the world's ice cream supply is.... Kif from Futurama. *snicker*
Addendum 2 Geez I'm watching a lot of TV today. Must remember to add Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends to the list of shows to check out more of.
Addendum 3 ...and now I've just seen my first episode of Robot Chicken. The DVD is on its way. =:) Greg the Bunny? Check. Family Guy? Check. Buffy? Check. Robot Chicken? Check. I am dangerously close to becoming an official Seth Green fanboy.
