Ugh. (beware of crappy cameraphone images)
Dec. 9th, 2005 10:59 pmSo it stopped snowing around 3:30 and I was ready to leave by 6. I headed out to the parking lot to see what the damage was...

Aww bugger.
I am so so so lucky that a co worker was nearby with a scraper and a shovel (a shovel! these people carry shovels in their trunks with which to unbury cars!!) but even with that it took a good 10 minutes to get the thing out. The highways were not as bad as I'd feared, but everything else was ice. I went by a restaurant I like in the hopes of getting dinner but they were closed so I used their frozen-over, empty parking lot to practice recovering from skids. This made me feel a bit better about the remaining drive.
So, finally, I got home. I'd been alternating between my car and Zel's so that neither sat there freezing all week and today was in Zel's car, leaving mine parked in front of the house:

That one took 20 minutes (and several instances of getting stuck when I got impatient and tried to make my poor widdle prius power over too much snow) to dig out. And then, sticking out of the snow, what do I find but a ticket. The city of Somerville declared today a "snow emergency" and made the even side of the street , where I was parked, a city-wide no parking zone so that the plows could get through. I understand why they need to do that, but they apparently declared it at 6 that morning via public access television and an email list that I wasn't aware of. Aparently they also had people driving around with loudspeakers later on, but I'd left for work by 7:30. Did I mention it was a $100 ticket? Ugh. I am so going to fight that one.
Anyway, I'm home now and alive (and hopefully not driving again for the rest of the weekend) and
penguinkraft was sweet and saved a small bowl of cookie dough for me which, along with some video gameage and the chance to actually unwind for the first time this week made things better.
This week has been crazy. I am so ready to be done with the current round of courseware revisions, or at least to have some weeks where I'm doing just that instead of trying to juggle it along with teaching a class. But other than that things are going well. Zel's trip home has been amazing and cathartic for her and I am super-proud.
I am also, however, super sleepy but told
bester I'd write up a history for my D+D character before tomorrow's game. At least I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow what with the game being held here and all. I love my house. =:)
