May. 19th, 2005 04:16 amI had a realization about Star Wars on the way home from Episode III.
Edit: I posted a longer explanation of my feelings about the movie in
theferrett's journal here.
Actually, after I voiced it, Lizbeth reminded me that she had said the same thing after episode II. Anyway, I/we've figured out The Perspective. The way in which the prequels can be looked at without completely destroying the original trilogy. A way to characterize the differences between the two trilogies. Basically, it goes like this:
The originals were, well, the originals. They were simple and fun because there was nothing yet to get all puffed-up and self-important about. But after their success, Lucas got carried away with the supposed grandeur and significance of the Star Wars universe. As a result, the prequels, less than Star Wars movies, were more like high-budget fanfics Lucas wrote in his own fandom. Somehow this makes it easier to deal with. We have Star Wars, and then we have the Fanfics. And after Episode III, Stephen Ratliff would be proud.

Date: 2005-05-20 02:16 am (UTC)I actually didn't know it was from a newsgroup. I just thought it was a clever turn on "one angry narn with the key." Also, it helps that it's G'kar holding the bat. :)
I'll make sure to google it though.

Date: 2005-05-26 04:03 am (UTC)and yet the only thought I had about it was "Which trilogy would I start my kids off with? the original trilogy, like I and everyone else did? or with the first trilogy, so there will be a generation that will actually seen them in perfect order?"
oh well, I'll have to burn that bridge when I come to it.
