I've been coming down with something gross over the last few days, and as it saps my ability to do anything useful, I find myself ever more appreciative that things like the Lizzie Bennet Diaries exist, which I've been binging when I'm coughing too much to sleep or work. I feel like I'm honorbound to actually read Pride and Prejudice now, because it doesn't seem right for me to become as attached as I am to the characters in this adaptation while knowing only the broad strokes of the original.

If, like me, you are way behind the times and didn't check this series out when it first made a splash a couple of years ago, do so now. The writing, acting, editing, everything... I really can't think of something I don't like about LBD except that despite being in 10 minute chunks, you should expect to set aside a couple hours at a time because it's *really* hard to stop watching (well, that and a commercial before each episode, which has me leaning strongly toward shelling out for the DVD set).

I'm a bit curious to hear from someone who's watched LBD without knowing anything about P&P. I found that knowing the gist of the original made me enjoy more things about the adaptation, like being able to go "Ooooh it's *that* guy! Be careful, Lizzie!". I suspect it's even more true if you know the book well, and I'm a bit tempted to at least send people to the Wikipedia summary of Pride and Prejudice before viewing. If anyone watched LBD completely cold, what did you think?

I loved LBD - but then again I adore the original.

If you're not up for reading it, the 6-hour A&E version is the definitive one, and it's amazing.

LBD is probably one of my top five pieces of media ever, which is not a thing I say lightly. It's so well-done on both a story and character arc level individually and as an adaptation.

That said, I'm crossing my fingers for a Persuasion or a Northanger Abbey. Persuasion because it's always been my favorite, and Northanger because it would be so much fun.

I wonder if a cold watch of LBD would lead to the review of it being cliche. In the Tolkien elves kinda way.
