Lizbeth is going to kill me for wasting the evening like this, but as you can probably tell we've both been a little stressed. So, my wonderful friend heiligekuh and I were chatting about Doctor Who when he found... this.

The cover of the first one is priceless. Like, "must... make... icon..." priceless.

I started the first episode this morning on the way to work. Hearing ASH do the "brutish warlord" voice is too much fun. I'm missing the backstory of why an old lady with a double decker bus knows the Doctor and lives in a nunnery on this strange fantasy world (I'll assume the two facts are connected), but Davidson's withering tone really tells me all I need to know.

(Did I get that right? Davidson is 5th, the celery doctor?)

Correct on both counts.

The synopsis of Excellis Dawns says that the bus lady is "Iris Wildthyme", who I've never heard of (but I love the name).

Poking around a bit, it looks like she was created for one of the Bernice Sommerfield eps, "The Plague Herds of Excellis", a synopsis of which is here. I haven't read said synopsis yet, though. Maybe if we like these, Plague Herds can be our first joint purchase.

Anyway, she seems to be popular enough to have her own fora and she's voiced by Katy Manning, who was one of the Pertwee-era companions and made a stir by posing in Playboy draped over a Dalek shortly after leaving the show. Hmm.. I smell an icon...

Wow. I know way too much about Doctor Who.

whoa! daleks are HUGE! i always thought they were about 3 feel tall, R2D2 size. i guess they could be considered a leetle more threatening now. but not much. ;)
