usernamenumberThe Post-Meridian Radio Players will be holding auditions for their Summer Radio Mystery Theater showcase on May 21st and 22nd (performances will be July 27th and 28th). The show will feature live re-creations of three classic radio scripts: Sorry, Wrong Number, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Gracie Takes Up Crime-Solving, from the classic sitcom Burns and Allen (or, if you like, George and Gracie).
Audition information, including the script excerpts from which auditioners will be reading, are here.
I will be directing the Burns and Allen ep. This is worth noting for anyone who might be uncomfortable auditioning for (and potentially not being cast by) someone they know.
Another thing worth noting about Burns and Allen is that since most of the main cast were playing caricatures of themselves, I am encouraging people to look up examples of performances by George Burns, Gracie Allen, Bill Goodwin, and Meredith Wilson (fun fact: also the composer of The Music Man, among other classic musicals) and try to emulate them. A youtube search for any of those names should bring up something (they had a tv series later on), and you can also find several eps of the radio series at archive.org (actually, Bill Goodwin seems sadly absent from YouTube, but he's the show's announcer in addition to a member of the cast, so he'll be easy to find in any of the radio episodes). For people looking to do more cartoony voices, there are also several supporting characters who were voiced by Mel Blanc himself!
If you want to take part but don't want to act, we also need people for foley teams. Figuring out how to do all the sound effects for a show and then performing them live right alongside the actors is a great challenge and a hugely important part of the show!
