Theater news!
Apr. 30th, 2012 05:45 pmMan a lot's been happening. I still need to write posts about Festival of the LARPs and my recent trip to Mississippi, but before that here's a long-overdue plug for some shows in which I'm going to be involved.
Most immediately, Gilbert and Sullivan's The Grand Duke (or, The Statutory Duel) opens this Friday! Performances are...
Friday, May 4, 8:00 PM
Saturday, May 5, 8:00 PM
Sunday, May 6, 2:00 PM
Thursday, May 10, 8:00 PM
Friday, May 11, 8:00 PM
Saturday, May 12, 2:00 PM
Details and a link to reserve tix are here.
A few notes about this show:
In less immediate news, I'm very excited to have been asked to join the cast of 2010: Our Hideous Future as the narrator for their upcoming summer tour! Dates for Salem and Providence have been announced, with more planned including NYC! Super excited!
Aaaand, as if that's not enough, later in the Summer I'm going to be directing one of my favorite episodes of The Burns and Allen Show as part of the Post Meridian Radio Players' Summer Showcase event!
Stay tuned for more on those last two as details emerge!

A few notes about this show:
- Just as an FYI to those who would be coming mainly to support me, I'm mostly in the chorus, though I do have a solo song as the Prince of Monte Carlo's herald (who, we have decided, is named Harold). Our principles are all fantastic actors and singers, though, so even if I'm the only one you know in the cast I do not think the show will disappoint!
- Our production includes one of the more bizarre dance numbers I've been in. It involves juggling, and me doing a cartwheel.
- You are allowed, nay encouraged, to titter like schoolchildren when the protagonist (such as he is) is ridiculed with cries of "Boobie! Boobie!" and called a "stupid muff". Ah the 19th century, when things meant different things. At least I hope they did.
- As far as I know the singers in this production, like most MITG+S productions, will not be mic'd. Based on my experiences in the audience at past productions, I would recommend grabbing a copy of the libretto on your phone (where applicable) and reading along, since sometimes the words get lost when the orchestra is in full blast. The complete G&S is available in several formats from Project Gutenberg.
- This show has the dubious distinction of being G&S's last and least successful show. That doesn't mean it's a bad show at all-- G&S at they're worst are still better than most, but it adds an extra dimension of fun if you listen for the places where Gilbert has clearly thrown his hands in the air and just stopped trying as a lyricist. My personal favorite rhymes include "with falt'ring feet and our our muscles all a-quiver / ...if our plot complete he has managed to disciver" and "dead as a doornail is the dog who loses / the winner steps into the dead man's shoeses", but there are many, many more.
- The show is directed by the inimitable John Deschene of Pride and Prejudice and 2010 fame. And speaking of 2010...
