Moving right along...
Mar. 11th, 2012 09:56 pmYesterday,
preraphaelite and I moved (almost) all of the stuff from the Dav (her old place) to the new, as yet unnamed, one.
Well, when I say "we" moved all of the stuff, I mean we did so with the help of some of the cadre of handymen the new owner of the Dav keeps on retainer (seriously-- dude owns a lot of properties, it seems). He has a vested interest in helping us move so he can start his renovations sooner, so... yay, free movers. It took all day and two trips with a U-Haul, but we've now got most of the stuff moved.
...which of course means that the new place is now intimidatingly full of boxes, and we haven't even gotten the bulk of my stuff from bcos yet (that's next weekend's project). Yeeps. We'd hoped to make more progress on the unpacking today, but... well, suffice to say unpacking the xbox first was not the best plan. Making progress in Mass Effect, though! >_>
Re Mass Effect, it's good to see that so many people seem to be digging ME3, because we kind of need a reason to keep going with ME1. It's not that there's anything really bad about the game (except for the mind-bendingly stupid healing mechanic-- seriously, who thought having one heal, with a crazy-slow refresh rate, for the entire party was a good idea??), but we played Dragon Age first, and what with ME pre-dating DA, it's painfully clear some of the lessons that BioWare learned and improvements they made between the two. Most notably, after becoming used to the great intra-party banter in DA, every time our party in ME gets into an elevator and just stands there silently (which happens a lot. Friggin elevators...), or when we try to talk to a party member while out on a mission only to have them repeat the same line of dialog every time, we cry a little.
...but I digress.
Aaaanyway, the new place is gawgeous, and despite some unfun aspects of the moving process (like the fact that I've had a nasty headcold the whole. damn. time.) we've been really enjoying settling into it. At this rate it's going to take a while for the house to be ready for a party, but we can't wait to have y'all over for a housewarming once it is! :D
And now to go assemble the damn bedroom...

Date: 2012-03-12 02:16 am (UTC)It's worth it to make an effort to befriend your squad, though, because the friendships that carry over into ME2 are worth it. There's a lot more mission commentary in ME2, and the combat is (in my opinion) much improved. Also, you can have pets onboard the ship xD

Date: 2012-03-12 02:55 am (UTC)The pacing is better in the second game and each party member has their own storyline mission thing to do, something important to them. The characters feel more fleshed out as a result.
Garrus is still my favorite.

Date: 2012-03-12 04:35 pm (UTC)Hearing the news reports about my exploits also made me feel much more like my actions were affecting the world.
I also really miss the Mako & those planetary exploration missions.
And single biotic cooldown per character is bullshit.
And don't even get me started on this "thermal clip" malarkey.

The Mako did add an interesting feel to things. I just didn't have the time to explore the entirety of every planet I went to. It was better than the resource gathering in ME2.

Date: 2012-03-12 05:11 am (UTC)It's probably just that I don't really play shooters. First-person perspective makes me queasy and I've got a neurological disorder that makes my hand-eye coordination pretty iffy, so I've pretty much avoided the entire genre up until now. But people kept telling me how much I'd love the ME story, so I decided to give it a try. And, hey, they were totally right about the story. I'm sure I'll get better with more play.
