usernamenumberAs a little boy I could never handle "the swamp scene" in The Nevernding Story (the one where the horse... oh, I can't even say it. If you've seen the movie, you know). I say without exaggeration that I'm getting a bit teary eyed just thinking about it as a thirty*ahem* year old GrownUp ostensibly doing a GrownUp Job at his GrownUp Desk.
An ex of mine, who had an affinity for The Last Unicorn, and I used to play a cruel game with one another, where whenever we passed a shoreline I would gesture toward the breaking waves and say "Aww... all those poor unicorns", to which she would respond with a steely glare and the word "Artax", at which point we would both sit quiet and sullen for a while. Yeah ok, so "game" is probably not the right word for that, but I digress.

juldea linked to on Twitter earlier today is strangely meaningful to me, downright life-affirming, and has had me misty and smiling all morning. Credit for the art goes to James Hance, who has some fantastic stuff on his site. Highly recommended.

...and hell, while I'm on the subject of Neverending Story-related pickmeups, sometimes when I'm in a bad mood I just watch this on repeat:
