Anyone out there use a safety razor?
Feb. 3rd, 2012 10:56 am...not the plastic kinds you get in most stores, the kind where the only disposable part is a double-sided razor blade? Ones like this.
I'm thinking of switching as part of my efforts to decrease the amount of waste I produce, but I'm taken aback by some of the tutorial videos that say "some people say it's too slow, but with practice you'll be able to shave in as little as five to ten minutes" (well, that and the fact that tutorial videos are involved at all).
Anyone have first-hand experience? Maybe even a razor I could borrow before I drop $30 on an experiment? Then again, I need new heads for my existing razor, and that's going to be $20, so...

For blades, lately I have been using American Safety Razor blades (typically these are rebranded and sold as a store brand, but they have their own brand as well, 'Personna') but I also really like Astra Super Platinum blades.
In any event, you're likely to prefer either of those options to the Sharks that typically come with a Parker package, but they're worth shaving with. Derby's on the other hand, you ought to just pitch.
