Drowsy Chaperone. Catch it if you can!
May. 30th, 2011 06:18 pmSaw The Drowsy Chaperone last night, on
hahathor's emphatic suggestion, and it was wonderful. If you have any love for musical theater, particularly the old school stuff (though I'm mostly a fan of contemporary stuff and still adored it), do yourself a favor and go see it. It manages to be a faithful homage to the simplicity, joy, and glamor of classic shows while retaining a very modern intelligence that is challenging and provocative underneath the veneer. The writing is great, the acting is superb, the singing and dancing are great. It is a love letter to fandom in general and broadway in particular, written by someone who knows both subjects well, warts and all.
The show has just been extended through June 19th, and goldstar.com has half-price tickets for some showings.
