Pics of the new apartment
May. 17th, 2004 08:23 pmOk, I've been promising pictures of our new place for some time, so here's more than any of you probably ever wanted to see.
The place is actually a three-unit complex

...but ours is just a little chunk of it (with a really big window). Our neighbors have a similar window but they, like everyone else in the neighborhood, keep the blinds pulled constantly. Personally, I don't get it. Not only are our blinds always open, first thing in the morning every window and every door gets opened to let in the light and breeze.

I really love that window (our lovely model there is Lizbeth's sister, Catherine)

This is our living room (and yes, that's all of it). Comes complete with ridiculously oversized beanbag and strange hooligans pawing at helpless teenage girls.

The beanbag is great for having guests over as it easily sleeps two:

One more of the living room. I'm quite impressed with how much we've managed to fit in here:

Next up: It's a kitchen! It's an office! It somehow manages to be both!

And it wouldn't complete without the bedroom/Lizbeth's office (I'll spare you the bathroom):

Outside it just gets better. Our patio is fantastic. My brother-in-law Alec agrees.

Stand on the far side of the driveway from the patio and look to one side. See that light at the end? That's the beach. Yeah.

Now, turn 180 degrees. At the end of that other path is the bay. When this shot was taken, Lizbeth was just returning with a cadre of friends and family to help us move in:

And I'll finish with the lovely Hibiscus bush (or whatever it is) that conveniently obscures our bedroom window.

All in all it's a nice place. As I type this, Lizbeth is winding up a music theory exam she's giving her siblings as part of their weekly jam sessions. Catherine's boyfriend, Mars, just showed up with his mom and disturbingly cute 4-year-old sister, Riegel (farscape fans, please sympathize with how disconcerting this is) and everybody's now bouncing on the beanbag. That makes it even nicer. =:)

Date: 2004-05-18 06:04 pm (UTC)That is AWESOME. What a fabulously geeky color name!
(The funny thing is, I suspect that when the Pythons made the skit, 'Norweigian Blue' was a perfectly ordinary and unremarkable color name. Not anymore, boy howdy!)

Date: 2004-05-18 10:58 am (UTC)Once my wall is finished and my new place is cleaned up, I'll be able to post pictures of it too. But I doubt people are dying to see photos of crumbled plaster, pieces of lumber and drywall, and weeks worth of unrecycled soda cans :|
