I'm pretty sure this is intentionally funny, but either way this guy deserves a place in net.history as the next "lightning bolt" dude. =:)

My hobby may not be dignified, but at least we can laugh at ourselves... or at each other, failing that.

I love this man. I can almost forgive him for clearly never having heard any actual medieval music.

I think I may make "I like daaahkwave! I like medieval music!!" my new ringtone. =:)

Just so you know, I'm still laughing after two days, and I have the words "You heff to hit ze guy!" repeating themselves in my head. I also showed it to a couple of Germans last night (one of whom has a gamer brother), and they were no less amused.

Interestingly, the guy's accent sounds to me closer to what sounds like a stereotypical French accent than a stereotypical German accent, despite having heard real German accents from co-workers and the like. A few other Americans have mentioned the same thing to me. Do you hear him that way? Is it a regional accent or something?

It sounds pretty typically German to me. You sure you're not thinking of the French guy in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? :) (I suggest it could be a question of personality.)

Whatever it is, the accent is indeed outrageous, so that's entirely possible. =;)

ACH!

Actually, it transcribes as 'Ju häff tu hitt se gei.' - and big compliments for bringing down the discussion - I mean, I was sort of impressed that nobody went the easy way and made fun of his German accent - too soon, all too soon.

By the way, he does not seem to have any kind of regional accent, as far as one can judge from the 'Scheisse' deliberation.

Well, let ME show you a GENUINE German take on America (with lots of regional accent).

I was aiming for a more Anglicized transliteration, but I cannot argue with your German version. (The "ä" would not have occurred to me... these vowels are subtle.)

But now it's my turn to get righteously indignant for a moment, because if Germans are going to complain about Americans' inadequacies in portraying medieval Europeans, then they'd better also get it into their heads that NOT EVERYTHING NORTH OF 110TH STREET IS HARLEM. THE CLOISTERS ARE IN WASHINGTON HEIGHTS! (Yes, where Isaac lives.)

I mean, that's like claiming that Milan, being in the South, is therefore in Bavaria.

(And I don't know what to say about the Feuerwehrlied, except that the ending was worthy of Stephan from Leipzig. I'm still suffering.)

Sorry Brad, we've hijacked your Livejournal again... at least the conversation's still mostly in English! :)

Wrong and you know it. That fake tizzy won't help.

(What the German ACTUALLY says is 'am Nordrand von Harlem'.)

"Rand" implies it's in the closure. It is not in the closure. I've been doing math all evening, you can't possibly win this one.

You are Super-Deutsch!

Oh yes, Herr Doktor! More German than the Germans, congratulations.

And while you're at your Crusade, geehrter Deutschordensgroßmeister...ah, forget it, I don't care.

You win, won, have won. It's finished.

Pretty nice modern dress shirt collar he has there, poking out from under his oh-so-authentic medieval tunic.

I like the itsy-bitsy shield. Heck, maybe that's authentic, but I've never seen a buckler shaped like that. In any case, I think/hope that he's just being silly.
