I hate/love it when I have a post brewing and then Randall Munroe goes and says it more concisely than I ever could. The more people I meet, the less comfortable I become with the "everyone is dumb but me and, coincidentally, most of the people I hang out with" trap, which I've fallen into way more often than I'd care to admit. <3 xkcd.

I have met more than one "Ivory Tower Elitist," as I refer to them, in my circles of friends. They make me sad. The mentality of "Only people who are amazing are worth anything, and I and my friends are amazing" really bugs me :( Just because different people have different values, skills, and approaches to life doesn't make them less worthwhile or less important.

I suspect that most people in my circles of friends haven't spent enough time in poorer neighborhoods talking to people, or talking to people who have service jobs. They're people, you know.

Oh sure I know the feeling. It's just nice to see the phenomenon put out in daylight like that and exposed for being as silly as it is.
