Jun. 3rd, 2009 09:01 amgeekdome.net is expiring in July. Register.com is $35 for 1yr, or $50 for 2. I hear there are cheaper registrars, but with all the godaddy shenaningans and whatnot in the last few years, I figure I should go with something someone I know has experience with and can vouch for.

Date: 2009-06-03 07:02 pm (UTC)If you need separate registering and DNS management, you can register with anyone and then you can use the services offered by the folks who run dyndns.org for assigning names to numbers. That's what I did when I was running off my own systems, before I started using a hosting provider.
I switched to hosted when I started running important things and I no longer wanted to be responsible for keeping everything safe. I was far too likely to do something stupid to one of my own systems and break things (often because I was serving from my desktop workstation).
