Well, currently the votes for shaving outnumber the votes for variations on the theme of not shaving (albeit only by one)... which is convenient, given that in a fit of assertiveness I overcame inertia and did it. It's... weird. Every time in the past that I've shaved I remember thinking "man, I look so much better like this". I think that's just because in those days the thing I was shaving was generally an attempt at a full beard, which I could never do well. This time around... well, it's not that I think it looks bad, I'm just not sure it looks better. It feels kind of... generic like this, like the hair gave my face a bit more... personality. Or maybe it'll just take some getting used to. Or maybe it's that my options for things to fidget with have been significantly decreased, which is maddening. Or perhaps it's because I look like a friggin 12 year old.

Have you considered the possibility that your friends are incapable of judging the actual aesthetics of your facial hair, and rather make a judgment based on how close the current image comes to their initial/ideal conception of "the Brad look"? Because when I see this, I don't think "He looks 12!" I think "Hey, there's that guy who I'm going to stomp at Duke Nukem this afternoon! And then go get hot chocolate at the cafe."
