Sooo...

For the last couple of days I've been making noise about shaving. I've had the same facial hairstyle for years now, and lately I'd come to be of the opinion that while it was apparent what said style was approximating, and that IMO, that which it approximated was pretty cool, it was never quite there except when trimmed just so, which it rarely was as my hair grows annoyingly fast. In short, I've gotten kinda sick of it.

So last night I decided to shave. I took off the goatee/soulpach/chin-thing... and then stopped.

See, moustaches are out, right? Way out. And yet, that means there's a certain extra sense of originality and style if one can pull it off. The question is...

...can I pull it off? I leave this question to you, dear readers:

[Poll #1401756]

I had to look up Fu Manchu

I'm actually against the handlebar things. It will look a lot less 70s if you make it a linear mustache instead of -x^8 .

As a stubborn solo mustache wearer myself for years now, I dig it.

handlebars are in right now. you may start getting invited to parties at great scott + the pill. if you steer clear from american apparel and skinny white belts and trucker hats, you may be a-ok.

I've tried mustache before. You can still see the results in the old CT driver's license picture, which I have included as the LJ Icon for this comment.

Freaks Amanda out all the time.

Right, so, I saw the picture and the comment text and wrote it off as someone I didn't know, and then saw [livejournal.com profile] rigel's response and said, "Wait, do I know this person?" and then looked at the username... and went, "Holy crap!" It definitely changed your look.

to be clear: My answer implies that I think each looks equally but differently good.

Also, it's "vain." Vane is the sort of thing that determines the direction of the wind.

D'oh. And it doesn't look like poll options are editable. Ah well. Thank you for pointing that out for future reference. =:)

There's... yeah. There's some pornstache goin' on there.

If you are really wanting a moustache, I would be happy to make you an amigurumi version of one. I'd even put it on a stick, for ease of use. Just for you. (This is seriously a design I've had in r&d for a while now.)

Or, just go buy the iPhone moustache app -- I just discovered it yesterday, and it's making me want an iPhone EVEN MORE now.

(basic gist: You turn on the app, hold it in front of your mouth, it displays a life-size picture of a mouth with a moustache, and it's voice-activated so the mouth opens and closes along with anything you say. THIS IS WHY I LOVE TECHNOLOGY.)

Shouldn't that be "manscaping" instead?

Fixed

". . .pornos and/or fight crime in the 1970s and/or play for the 1972-74 oakland Athletics (known as the Mustache Gang) who won 3 World Series in a row [Boo-Ya!!], shave."
You're welcome.
Also, as an aside, I like to frighten my wife by shaving everything except the upper lip and threatening to keep it.

I admire the dedication to one's personal style, but in general in less you could grow facial hair in the 70s, I do not think you should have a 70s mustache now - unless your joining up with a Disco Band or doing a guest appearance with Booty Vortex.
