My conclusion upon seeing that movie was: "That movie could only have been improved by judicial application of Simon Pegg!" ;^)

Hey, I don't care if it's a judge has to mandate the application or not. More Pegg, more better! =:)

Seriously, while I think the story stretched plausibility past the breaking point on more than one occasion, it was the cast, all around, that made the movie for me.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about it. The excellent casting allowed me to gloss over it, and still allows me to be excited about future installments, but the more I actually think about the movie, the more of a mess it seems writing-wise. Apparently there's a comic book they released before the movie that explains all the backstory and makes some of the more ridiculous stuff at least a little less so, but the fact that they shunted all that to a friggin comic book so they could leave more room for Kirk being chased by CG monsters pretty much epitomizes what I didn't like about the movie.

...and yes, I was a bit surprised to see it get a B from you; a much less crotchety response than would be characteristic. =;)
