So, plans for this weekend...
On Friday, I'm still waffling on seeing Into the Woods at 8pm vs melting into a pile of goo at home. I know
v_cat has expressed interested in the former. Anyone else up for a mob?
I was also really excited to learn that because of concerns about the weather, two great looking events that had been scheduled for Saturday, which is booked for me, have been moved to Sunday according to
ron_newman here (btw, if you're local and not on
davis_square or
somervillemass they're awfully handy).
Anyway, the things in question are the Rock and Roll Yard Sale in the afternoon (warning: link goes to myspace. follow the link to Ron's post for info in a less annoying format) and a live music ensemble performing their own soundtrack to a 1929 Chinese silent martial arts film. How freaking cool is that??
I have to admit though that, watching the trailer, I've become less sure... The music sounds awesome in a way that I'm sure would only sound cooler live, but the video... in particular the teeth... is this an offensive, racist fake or is that for real?? imdb knows nothing about the movie and the only stuff I found googling (albeit briefly) relates to this groups' performance of their soundtrack. I will probably go see it, since if the movie is for real it looks like a fascinating piece of history (who knew that wire-fu predates sound?). Anyway, I'll close with the trailer so y'all can judge for yourselves:
...and ok, the title of this post lies because factcheck.org has finished their dissection of Palin's speech. I'm still more incensed by the snarky, condescending tone (almost as though she's some kind of elitist or something) than anything else, but at least now the outright falsehoods are there for anyone who cares to read about them. Oh, and
skipperdee linked to this which is also worth a read.
