Sequoia and I's Cingular contract is about to expire. I haven't had any problems with them, but am considering using the opportunity to change as a way to leverage a better phone, better plan or something. I can probably do this while staying with Cingular, but I figure I might as well ask: does anyone have suggestions for providers I should consider-- or avoid, in the Boston area?

Oh man, do I wish I still had Cingular.

I have Sprint. They suck. Avoid at all costs.

I have been happy with T mobile for the last several years. I had sprint before that and was NOT happy. I personally am looking to be switching to Cingular soon, both because that is what my parents use, and more importantly because I want an iphone, and they will be the only carrier. Is it June yet?

Well, My family and i have been quite happy with verizon. They have some good plans, and i know that when we signed on, we got $200 off the price of our new phones by agreeing to a two year contract, meaning my mom's was free and mine cost $20....

Wow! I've never seen anyone write "X and I's" before! Neat!
I love genitive case assignment to personal pronouns across conjunction structures in English. They're just too wacky!

Wait until next month and then look into the iPhone?

ergh, sorry, not actually answering your question -- I've had good luck with Verizon (though I barely use my phone these days), but I'm going to at least consider switching to Cingular to get an iPhone in a couple months.

Idunno. I already have a good media player and, really, I wouldn't want to have to worry about not being able to make calls if I listened to too much music. It looks like a gorgeous interface, but it combines two devices I'm not sure it's really a good idea to combine.

and in a way that really minimizes the usefulness of the mp3 player, IMO. what's the storage on the iphone? 3 gigs?

Aside from a couple really crappy customer service encounters with Verizon, I've been pretty happy.

Service is good, and they have good phones. I'm really looking forward to the Samsung i760 (http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsung-sch-i760/), which is the next iteration of my current phone.

Verizon's data plan is expensive, though -- $80/mo. for data on top of a minimum $40/mo. for voice, etc. service is *waaaay* more than I want to pay. I don't know if anybody else has a data plan that sucks less, though -- I think [livejournal.com profile] obra is decently happy with T-Mobile's data plan right now, though you should ask him for details. And you may decide not to care about a data plan. (obra's a power user -- I can ask him for details if you'd like.)

I dunno what plan you're looking at, but I'm paying $40/mo for voice and $45/mo for "unlimited" (read: we whine if you go over a few gigs) data. And $5 for 250 text messages.
