I think I can really see this replacing the traditional mouse-driven gui someday, and yet I don't think the change will be as radical as the inventor says. Trivial interfaces (in the sense of simplicity and intuitiveness, not the underlying technology) lend themselves to trivial applications. Non-trivial applications have always seemed to require nontrivial interfaces by virtue of the fact that, well, they need to do more than the trivial interfaces. And so I wonder how much clutter this elegant system of touches and gestures would pick up if adapted to something like 3d Studio as opposed to the lava lamp demo from his presentation.
Still, it would be an improvement and it looks so very, very cool. I'd want a command line for scripting and automation, but I'd love to see his interface get integrated into a full OS/computer.
