Reminder: free PMRP audio theater workshop is THIS SATURDAY

If you've ever considered getting into podcasting and/or audio theater, and want to learn the basics (along with other cool tricks) of creating sound effects and doing post-production all using free/cheap software, the Post-Meridian Radio Players are hosting a FREE workshop. The goal of the workshop is to give more people the know-how they need to access this cost-effective creative outlet!

Alicia Goranson of The Mask of Inanna will talk about the basics of recording.

I'll demonstrate using Audacity to turn sounds you can record around the house into all kinds of cool sound effects like the ones used on Second Shift.

Bryan Lincoln of Fullcast Podcast will talk about doing post-production and mastering in Reaper, using examples from his own past work in audio theater and interview podcasts.

Jay and I are thinking of coming to this. However, our laptops run Linux. Is that going to be okay with whatever software we'll be needing?

Not only does Audacity run on Linux, I produced almost all of Second Shift using Audacity on Linux.

Reaper is Win/OSX only, but most of the principles Bryan teaches will be applicable to other software. I would look into Ardour for a Linux-based alternative to Reaper. If it had been a little more mature, and I had had a little more know-how when I was working on Second Shift, I probably would have used it instead of Audacity for the mastering part of the process.

I am intrigued, though kind of heavily booked for Sat as it is. My own storytelling and oral history work has not included "audio theater" at this point. I'm trying to decide if this could be useful for my kind of current work (though I am somewhat pulled to the idea of participating in radio plays down the line).

The presentations are in the order listed, so I guess the answer depends on which topics are likely to be most useful to you, but I'd say sure!
