(no subject)

Just finished the first two episodes of Defying Gravity, a new sci-fi show. I have some quibbles, but remain intrigued. Worth watching.

I wouldn't mind more thoughts on what you think of it.

Ok, some random thoughts:

It's near-future sci-fi, which it seems isn't often done, so I like that.

Exploration of the unknown, and mysterious powers at work behind the scenes seem to be major elements of the premise. These are typically things that pique my interest.

There is one character who I found myself both really liking and being mildly offended by, as he seemed in a lot of ways to be the "noble savage to whom the white man shows wisdom" archetype.

I imagined at several points that any actual NASA personnel probably *headdesk*'d frequently, as the show would have us believe that space missions are crewed exclusively by attractive people and brimming with sexual tension.

...those are the main things. Really, it worked for me because if you dangle the carrot of an interesting-looking long-term plot in front of me, I'm willing to forgive a lot of other things. But that's my personal taste. YMMV.

Were you asking because you've seen it or because you haven't?
