bkdelong and he knows doctoraicha from the SCA and trusts her that this is legit, and if it is I figure it qualifies as a good cause.
The short version is that a friend of doctoraicha's dad is dying, which is bad enough but on top of that the family is destitute and will not be able to afford even the cheapest cremation, which has been quoted to them as around $1200. On behalf of her friend, she's raising money via paypal.
If you're broke or feel sketchy about this, but have advice on dealing with such things (at least one person has already linked to a strategy for supposedly cutting down on the cost), I hope that would be appreciated as well.
