I haven't posted much lately except for the little haiku thing. I'm currently teaching in Toronto, doing a class that I haven't taught before so I'm spending a lot of my time each evening getting prepped for the next day.

My goal this week has been to not watch any TV. It's kind of wierd that this is an issue because at home I almost never watch tv anymore. Heck, the only reason we have cable is because we can't get net access without it. But in a hotel/motel/whatever, the tv is alway _right there_ staring at you from across the bed like a dominatrix or... something. Umm.. ok, no more similies for me today. When you get home and you're tired and you're not ready to go to sleep but your brain wants to be engaged without actually having to process anything tv can be nice. I curese the Adult Swim people for putting all the good stuff on past my bedtime, though.

Anyway, at the place I'm at now, the TV is still there, but it's in a little cubby with a closable door, which was closed when I first entered the room. I've found that it's much easier to just not open the door than to resist the remote while being stared down by the box.

This is not to say that I'm without media. I cheat and just bring pre-recorded TV that I know I like. I have some Family Guy and I P2P'd an MST3k recently, which has proven quite enjoyable. It's called "Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies". Need I say more? I was curious about the title because I'd assumed it was a badly translated foreign movie when in fact it appeared to be American. The real reason for the title is even funnier. Read.

Well, I'm afraid that I don't have much more to post about. It's funny how one's life can be relatively interesting (I mean, in that last month I've been in NYC, Orlando, Washington DC and Toronto) but still not have much to say about it. Ho-hum.

My students are working on a lab right now. This 'hands-off' portion of the class where all the work is self-guided (they're following a set of instructions to set up email servers on their machines right now) and I just answer questions when people have them is a bit foreign to me. I never did that when I was designing my own classes. I'm not knocking it. In fact the students find it very valuable have the lecture followed by self-guided work. But it leaves me with nothing to do. Thus, since I forgot my laptop's power cable at the hotel and have an excuse not to do work-related email, my taking the time to post now... even if it's all just idle ramblings.

That's all for now.
