you are too cute for words. i have fond memories of you and Dave singing old timey songs.

digital cameras won't be on par with film cameras for many years to come, so i wouldn't bother spending extra money on something with more megapixels or a fancy lense. if you got a little cheapy web-oriented model for under $100 that should serve your purposes just fine. another option, if you want to be able to manipulate images and print them without seeing compression or pixels in the prints is to get a scanner. you can scan your prints and/or your negatives and save them as TIFFs (no compression) if you wanted to do that. even if you save them as JPEGs the image quality is going to be better than if you were using a top of the line digital SLR.

if you just want to post internet pictures of your travels, you should be able to find something in the $50 range.
